  • Concept and challenges: Established on what use to be the docks of Canal Lachine, the unique condo project Bassins du Havre is certified LEED, a place where water will return to the lands. Indeed, basins will be layed out as a backyard in order for the citizen to be in direct contact with the island’s banks while being in the middle of the city. It acts like a new and in development neighbourhood following the bigger cities urban planning. The project’s inspiration lies in the desire of revealing the place’s authenticity and past through the reinterpretation of the architectural port language. The project is being developed in many phases, but our intention was to create 4 luminous lanterns represented by the 4 future lobbys, facing one another. Cette notion est accentuée par le dialogue créé par d’immenses œuvres d’art,  correspondant entre elles  par leur traitement et créant ainsi une connexion visuelle entre les différentes lanternes. The chosen materials are reminiscent of the popular architecture. We have kept the main features of this architecture among others with the use of porcelain that looks like corroded steel slabs. The exposed concrete structure of the central elevator amplifies the concept. The lighting has been carefully elaborated and tailor made for this project. The space is punctuated by 3 long poles looking like street lamps floating in the space, going down from the ceiling to accentuate the height and depth of the area. The Keilhauer furniture, that won many prizes, constrats with the raw materials by the clean and contemporary lines meeting the LEED standards, common denominator of the Bassins du Havre project.
