  • Concept and challenges: The Village Scalabrini project combines new housing construction with the St. Rita Church to save this abandoned place of worship and create a village for tenants without family. The Scalabrinian Missionaries aim to provide affordable housing and keep the church for non-religious community activities for Ahuntsic-Cartierville. The 51-unit complex will house retired fathers of the congregation, isolated individuals, couples, and families. The design of the new building harmonizes with the church's architecture, with green spaces around the forecourt to highlight the church and create an interface with the street.
