  • Concept and challenges: The project plans for an enlargement and a transformation of one of the most impressive patrimonial buildings in North America; Nordelec. The concept being to protect the industrial tracks while keeping a contemporary spirit by the use of materials and artefacts recycled in the building which will be exposed in the common spaces. The exploitation of the copper as the main thread of these spaces, reminds the industrial past of the Northern Electric which specialized in the production of electric wiring. HUMÀ design reinterpreted elements of design of this period such as motives and ceramic, and in two different spaces due to their atmosphere. The conversion; respect the authenticity of the place, sublimated by the hundred-year-old bricks, the industrial architecture, which contrasts with the reflecting and very contemporary materials like the object kitchen with its integrated appliances. Then the new construction; contemporary architecture and envelope with the use of rough materials as the wooden floor in black and white walnut of America.
